Tintin in Tibet (1962)

Monday 22 October 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday 24 October 5:30 p.m.

A film based on the story by George Remé Hergé (1907-1983)

Chang, a young Chinese boy en route to Europe, is the victim of an airplane crash in the Himalayas. Tintin in Tibet (1960) is a pure story of friendship, devoid of all villains, and which recounts Tintin’s desperate search for his lost friend. This poignant adventure, contrasting with the extroverted tone of the two previous adventures, demonstrates that loyalty and hope can overcome all obstacles and that preconceived ideas, such as the fear of the "abominable snowman", are often the result of sheer ignorance.

In 2006, the Dalai Lama presented the Hergé Foundation with the Light of Truth award for upholding Georges Remé's legacy as the author of Tintin in Tibet, a book which brought the Tibetan landscape and culture to new audiences across the world. In 2001 the Foundation blocked Chinese attempts to rewrite Tintin's and Tibet's history by demanding the recall of the Chinese-language book, which had published the book using the title "Tintin in China's Tibet".
